Posterior Tibial Nerve Stimulation (PTNS) is a non-drug, non-surgical option for overactive bladder and associated symptoms of urinary urgency, urinary frequency and urge incontinence. It is posterior tibial nerve stimulation that is placed on the patient’s ankle in the office setting followed by therapy. It is a simple, non-invasive way to offer therapy with no downtime for the patient.
Urgent PC stands for "Urgent® PC Neuromodulation System" and is a type of percutaneous tibial nerve stimulation (PTNS).
During an Urgent PC treatment session, a small acupuncture-like needle electrode is inserted near the ankle to reach the tibial nerve. The electrode is then connected to the Urgent PC device, which delivers mild electrical impulses to stimulate the tibial nerve. The impulses travel through the nerve pathways to the sacral nerves that control bladder function.
This neuromodulation technique helps to normalize the nerve signals and improve the communication between the bladder and the brain. The treatment is typically performed in a healthcare professional's office and does not require anesthesia or surgery.
Each session lasts about 30 minutes, and a series of treatments is usually recommended for optimal results.
Urgent PC has been shown to be effective in reducing the symptoms of overactive bladder and improving bladder control. It is a well-tolerated and minimally invasive alternative for individuals who may not want or are not suitable for medication or surgical interventions.
As with any medical procedure, it's important to consult with a healthcare professional to discuss if Urgent PC or any other treatment options are suitable for your specific condition and needs. They can provide personalized recommendations and guide you through the treatment process.
